“Quick weekend flashback for your weekday viewing pleasure, featuring my not-so-secret foolproof outfit combo: One part skinny jeans, one part printed silk button front blouse and a liberal sprinkling of ankle strap heels. Simple, but still manages to pack some punch.”

Classic Closets

Filed Under: Behind the Scenes / Fashion / Inspiration

Last week, in honor of Bergdorf Goodman’s Denim Week, we raided the closets of three of J Brand’s most fashionable employees. We asked our Vice President of Design, Public Relations Manager, and Customer Service Manager to style their favorite classic style, showing the versatility of our signature dark wash, skinny jean.

J Brand, 620 in Hewson, 212 872 2887

Beth

Introducing Beth, our PR Manager, who leads J Brand’s global press efforts. She works closely with all of the top fashion editors toshowcase our pieces in magazines, such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and GQ. As one of the most stylish ladies of J Brand, she owns nearly every style in our creative archives. We took a peek in her closet to get a closer look at Beth’s overflowing wardrobe.

Wearing J Brand Classic: 620 in Hewson

1. How would you describe your style
I’m a bit more edgy and experimental with my fashion, while keeping it clean and classic – in line with the J Brand DNA. Right now, I cannot take off my J Brand leather leggings!! I love adding biker elements, a neon handbag or an Isabel Marant bootie always in the mix to keep the look my own! I am always wearing my rings and bracelets that I have collected from my world travels – each one with a very special meaning. I never take those pieces off!

2. How do you wear your favorite classic J Brand jean
“A Venti Starbucks soy latte and my iPhone are always my main accessories! With clothing, I’m all about mixing different brands – J Brand is always the canvas for my look! Today I had a photo shoot and interview with the owner of J Brand, so I dressed my 620 in Hewson up while keeping the look a tough with double leather (biker jacket and leather tee) – J Brand Ready to Wear Baez leather tee with a little H&M short sleeved collar blouse underneath, Christopher Kane SS12 white leather jacket and Alexander Wang SS12 Joan Mule Pumps”

3. Where would you be seen in this outfit (from picture)
“Because my work day starts early in the morning and can end late in the evening after a dinner with an editor, a stylist, or my best friends, I like to leave the house and be set through wherever the day will take me. Day to night with maybe a few make-up and shoe tweaks!”

4. What makes this jean classic
“The fit, the fabric, the versatility of the wash! I can wear these jeans to a photo shoot, shopping at the Grove, on a 15-hour airplane ride, or just hanging out at home – with booties, pumps, heels or sneakers. Nothing compares to my Power Stretch classic J Brand leggings!”

Mary in J Brand, Maria Starless, 212 827 2887

Mary

As our VP of Design, Mary heads up our women’s design department. She is responsible for some of our best-selling styles including the ever popular, Houlihan. Mary works with our technical and wash teams to come up with new cuts and colors each season.

Wearing J Brand Classic: Maria in Starless

1. How would you describe your style
“Unfussy, simple with an edge. I love pairing a clean skinny jean with a good heel or wedge—it elongates! Who doesn’t want the illusion of long and lean?”

2. How do you wear your favorite classic J Brand jean
“I styled this look with YSL Tribute Sandal in Black Leather, a J Brand Ready To Wear tee, and the Benatar Leather Jacket.”

4. What makes this jean classic
“I love the Maria fit in Starless because the fabric is light and stretchy but holds everything in and keeps it’s shape! The wash is dark and clean which is versatile to style. I love this jean because it’s skinny and high-waisted.”

3. Where would you be seen in this outfit
“Everywhere….work, out to dinner with friends, on a date night with my hubby, school meetings! The power stretch denim is so comfortable that I can wear it while working with our model during a fitting, or running around L.A. with my two year old.”

Julie in J Brand Maria in Hewson, 212 872 2887

Julie

A former NYC resident, Julie misses the very “Classic New York” feel of weekend afternoons spent at Bergdorf’s – shopping then stopping on the 7th floor for an afternoon cocktail overlooking the park. Now residing in Los Angeles, Julie currently is J Brand’s Manager of our Customer Service and Sales Support team. She partners with sales reps and buyers to make sure our latest pieces are quickly reaching retail stores.

Wearing J Brand Classic: Maria in Hewson

1. How would you describe your style
“Playful. I like outfits that juxtapose elements of casual and dressy, simple and overstated, sophisticated and whimsical, and the subdued and loud – keeping it lighthearted and fun!”

2. How do you wear your favorite classic J Brand jean
“I love pairing the Maria in Hewson with a more cropped fitting top or a button-down tied in front – something that accentuates the high-waisted fit of this style. And of course, any outfit of mine isn’t complete without loads of jewelry to adorn my wrists and the highest heels I can find in my closet!”

3. Where would you be seen in this outfit
“This outfit is easy and comfortable – I’d wear it to a day at the office or to a simple dinner out with friends. I love the Hewson wash because it can easily transition from casual to dressy with a change of top. In L.A. everything is so spread out, you don’t always have time to go home and change, so I always keep some accessory options with me in case something comes up last minute. When I’m wearing my J Brand classic I never have to worry about being under or over dressed because they always look just right!”

4. What makes this jean classic
“Fit, Fit, Fit! The high-rise and skinny fit of the Maria is flattering on everyone, and at 5’0 tall, I love how this style can give the impression of longer legs!”

J Brand Coachella Diary

Filed Under: Behind the Scenes / Events

Nash, one of the members on our Technical Design Team, spent the weekend in Indio, CA at the hyped music festival, Coachella.  Coachella is known not only for its music, but also for its “street” style.  You can find people wearing high-end designers labels and vintage finds in many style genres from urban to hippie to hipster.  We asked Nash to capture the adventure and give us an inside look on her festival style, predominant fashion trends, and favorite shows.

Day 1:

As shorts and tanks were expected on the style radar, Coachella attendees had to switch it up for the unexpected temperatures. “Although it was super cold, the weather didn’t stop the party.” People covered up in their best leather and denim jackets to hit the festival grounds.

One of the highlights of the first day was watching the band honeyhoney perform their song “Turn That Finger Around.”  The spirited Los Angeles duo, Suzanne Santo and Ben Jaffe, seamlessly blends elements of bluegrass, country, pop, rock and folk, for a sound unlike any other.

Day 2:

Thankfully the weather warmed up in the desert on Saturday.  Girls were spotted wearing colored and high-waisted shorts, paired with chambray shirts and simple t-shirts layered underneath. Nash stood out amidst the crowd in our 1296 Lola in Sugar Cane.

Day 2 ended with Radiohead, one of Nash’s favorite shows. She witnessed 90,000 people singing along to “Karma Police” and called it “life-changing.”

Day 3:

Nash started early to soak up the last day of Coachella. She was looking forward to this day because in her opinion, it had the best lineup. The weather was perfect and everyone was in a really good mood. She danced in our 1046 Cut-Off Shorts in Polar to Calvin Harris and Rihanna, and ended the night in the 811 Mid-Rise Skinny in Neon Yellow with Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre.  As many of you may have heard, Dre and Snoop were joined by rapping legends 50 Cent, Eminem and a hologram of Tupac, which had audience members quite confused due to how realistic it looked.

Performance aside, Florence from Florence + The Machine had the most unique Coachella outfit in our eyes.  Dressed in a full body black leotard and ethereal black cape that flowed from her arms, it was hard not to smile and sing along as Florence pumped up the crowd while twirling barefoot on stage.  At one point during the concert, she commanded the men in the audience to lift the women on their shoulders while she performed  “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up).”

Here’s Nash TOP 5 favorite songs from Coachella:
1. Calvin Harris – “I Feel So Close”
2. Radiohead – “Karma Police”
3. Snoop Dog & Dr. Dre – “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang”
4. Metronomy – “The Look”
5. Justice – “Dance”

All in all, the three day festival was amazing, and the combination of well-known artists mixed with up and coming bands made for a weekend of discovery and fun.

J Brand Spotlight: Oscar – Event & Fit Specialist

Oscar Adames is our fun and enthusiastic Event & Fit Specialist. Read below to see what our adorable New Yorker has to say about his job at J Brand.

1. You are all the way in New York City, while the J Brand HQ is located in Downtown LA. What is your position at J Brand?
While you guys are in LA working on new styles and color stories, I am in the fashion capital, NYC, working as the J Brand Event and Fit Specialist.

2. How long have you been working for J Brand?
I have been working for J Brand since 2006. That’s 6 years with the best fashion/denim team in the business!

3. Since you are the J Brand expert, what is your favorite women’s style and men’s style for all body types?
For women, one of my favorites is the 23110 Maria in Starless or Hewson. This is a perfect denim legging made with a special smooth power stretch fabric. This combination is extremely comfortable, and it shapes the body in all the right places, making it the perfect jean for transitioning from day to night. You can wear it with any color top or tank, a blazer, and your favorite heels.

A favorite style for men is the 5 pocket Kane in Raw or Phantom. The Kane offers a classic look with its raw fabrics and clean detail pockets. I wear them for all occasions. It’s perfect to dress up and dress down.

4. What is your favorite thing about working on J Brand fitting events?
The best part about my job is meeting new customers and helping them find “The Perfect Jean”. These events give me the opportunity to show everyone how important denim is to our everyday wardrobe. Since J Brand has a fit for everyone, I’m able to translate these styles to our clients and share subtle details about our denim and new Ready-to-Wear pieces.

5. Describe your personal style
My style is classic yet fashionable and clean. I love to add accessories like a scarf or a pair of sporty sunglasses. I also really like color denim, but you can never go wrong with a clean, dark blue or black.

My jean is the Kane (Slim Straight Leg) in Phantom worn with a pair of sporty sneakers. It’s perfect for running around the NY streets.

6. Since you constantly travel, what is your must-have item(s)?
A good men’s bag to put all my goodies in like my lap-top, sunglasses and cell phone. Another must is my iPod. It’s loaded with all my favorite music and videos, which makes me feel connected to home and my loved ones when on the road.

7. Name the top 3 songs playing on your iPod?
Cassie – King of Hearts
Nicki Minaj – Starships
Jes – Awaken

8. Favorite TV show/movie of the moment?
Since I travel so much, I DVR a lot of shows. My top TV pick right now is The Vampire Diaries. My movie of the moment is The Lorax.

9. What is your favorite city?
NYC of course! Next would be London and then Boston.

To meet and learn more from Oscar, we will keep you posted on Facebook about upcoming J Brand retail events.

J Brand Celebrates Intermix Brentwood Boutique Opening: Recap

Filed Under: Behind the Scenes / Fashion

Thursday evening, J Brand celebrated Intermix’s new L.A. store opening located in the Brentwood Country Mart. Hosted by local fashion blogger, Geri Hirsch of Because I’m Addicted wearing a beautiful floor-length dress topped with our Ready-To-Wear jacket, Nicks Bomber in Tan, this cute boutique was filled with guests who dressed to their upmost best. Signature cocktails and light hor d’oeuvres were served by FarmShop, and great music spun by DJ Devin Lucien.

A few weeks ago, Geri took Intermix and J Brand on a tour of her top Westside spots – from Beverly Hills to the Santa Monica Pier. Photos (taken by Photographer Magdalena Wosinska) from this excursion were showcased throughout the store in a gallery-like installation.

As guests sipped on their choice of Blood Orange/Rosemary or Jalapeño/Mint Margaritas, people shopped our latest Spring styles, including our Intermix exclusives and pieces from our Ready-To-Wear collection.

If you’re in the area, add the Brentwood Intermix boutique to your must-stop list! In addition, we’re welcoming them to the neighborhood with an exclusive, custom zippered style. It comes in three different pastel colors available for a limited-time only at this location.
