Today, we’re spotlighting of our design team members, Jane. We love having her fun attitude on our team, she always keeps a calm demeanor and has a smile on her face. It actually made us giggle to find out the things she admires and is working on personally are things we admire so much about her now!
1. How long have you been on the team here?
I’ve been working for J Brand for over two years.
2. Describe your role at J Brand?
My title is Women’s Assistant Designer. I help with product development and put new ideas and fabrics into sewing. It involves a balance of creative and technical work. I create technical sketches, source new trims, spec development samples, and have them ready for fittings. I also have our salesman samples made with the help of our amazing design team. I have the samples shipped to domestic showrooms and make sure they have the latest styles to represent our line. I also pass down samples to the marketing team for photo shoots and any other marketing needs.
3. If you had the choice to go anywhere on a trip, where would you go and which J Brand style would you pack?
I’m actually just came back from Hawaii with my boyfriend. I took my J Brand denim jacket in Universe. It’s the perfect denim jacket to wear with maxi dresses, printed tops, skirts, and colored twills. It’s going to get a ton of wear this Spring and Summer.
4. Do you have any future goals you are looking forward to accomplishing?
I’m always looking forward to being more accomplished in my career, but this year I have more personal goals. I’m working on being a healthier, more positive, and well rounded individual.
5. Who’s your favorite musician/band?
I love all types of music… Different music satisfy different moods! Artists that are always on heavy rotation are Sonic Youth, The Smiths, Mayer Hawthorne, The Beatles, Kanye West, The Kills, Al Green, Rick Ross, Dipset, Radiohead, Ladytron, Interpol, The Clash, The Doves, and Prince. I’m a LA girl so I really enjoy old school, funk, and oldies as well such as Rick James, Mary Jane Girls, Freestyle, Egyptian Lover, Smokey Robinson, The Spinners, Curtis Mayfield, etc. That’s the type of music I’ve been listening to at parties since I was a kid.
6. Favorite place in Los Angeles? (Can be a city, restaurant, shop, bar, nail place, beach, whatever makes you happy)
One of my favorite places to hang out and eat in LA is Little Tokyo. I love having Shabu Shabu, late night chicken katsu at Kouraku, Daikokuya ramen, Woori Market for ready made Korean food, and the little gift shops and bookstores are just awesome. Also any day at the beach is a great day for me!
7. If were to switch roles with anyone at J Brand, what would you choose and why?
That would be whoever has most creative freedom and the most vacation time!
8. Pastel or Neon or Classic denim?
Classic denim. I live in Starless and Hewson super skinnies.
9. If you had one superpower what would it be?
I would be some form of female Batman. Cool, calm, collected, and highly intelligent.
